London 2012 - An Olympic Challenge
Monday, August 10th, 2009Ever since it was announced in July 2005 that London had pipped Paris to the 2012 Olympic Games, the race has been on to ensure that the city is fully equipped to host the largest sporting event in the world.
The scale of the work needed to be done has been monumental and the transformation of England’s capital city is really starting to take shape. With just 3 years to go now until the start of the Olympic Games Lord Sebastian Coe, the Chairman of the London Organising Committee, believes the project is ahead of schedule.
At the forefront of the development is the £9.35 billion Olympic Stadium which will seat 80,000 spectators in East London. The structure of the stadium is now clear to see with the outer shell already completed and visible to those who pass by. Spectators will be ferried to the stadium by the ‘Javelin Train’ which is a new state of the art transportation system which will run from St Pancras to Stratford International Station in just 7 minutes. This gives spectators the opportunity to stay in the city centre and be at the stadium in the quickest time possible.
As the games draws nearer, the number of places to stay before and during the event will become difficult to find as spectators book early to avoid disappointment. One of the best ways to enjoy the Olympics will be to book serviced apartments London. These will provide important accommodation and help spectators enjoy the luxury and flexibility of a serviced apartment while watching the fantastic spectacle that London will put on show.
The athletes themselves, along with officials from all countries, will be staying in the large Olympic Village that is being built very close to the Olympic Park. This is an excellent opportunity for London to show itself to the world in all it’s glory and we are sure it won’t disappoint.
